Bricklayers around the world get to the same result with different habits, and this short clip is Stu laying bricks in the Australian style. It’s just over three minutes, no long explanation, and it’s for anyone on the tools who’s curious about how the trade is done elsewhere.
The difference is in the trowel work and the rhythm. Australian bricklayers tend to use a different trowel and a different way of picking up and spreading mortar, and the pace and hand movements look different from the British style Stu usually works in. Watching the two side by side is a good reminder that the fundamentals don’t change: the brick still goes to the line, the bed still has to be full, the perps still have to line up. Only the way the hands get there changes.
